Authorize the purchase of the Colorado Timing System (CTS) for the Palm Desert Aquatic System in an amount not to exceed $70,000.00. 2. Appropriate $70,000.00 from unobligated Fund 242 monies to fund 242-4549-454-4001 (Aquatic Center, Capital Account). Back�round The Aquatic Center (PDAC) was designed to be utilized with a competitive timing system for both swimming and water polo. The system will help the PDAC in attracting large scale events that will bring visitors to Palm Desert. The CTS is by far the most prevalent system at facilities such as the PDAC. Due to the fact that most swim meets are run by volunteer organizations, it is a good idea to utilize a system that most are familiar with. The system includes all the hardware, software, touch-pads, and scoreboard which were designed to be installed on the south side of the 50-meter lap pool. The original construction of the PDAC provided all of the existing conduits and connections for the use of this system. The CTS is essentially a purchase of equipment from the manufacturer which comes with installation support. The system comes with a pre-engineered drawing for installation of the scoreboard, which will be bid locally per our procurement policies. There will also be some work needed by a local electrician to install the system in existing conduits and tombstones. In July of 2012, staff indicated to the Council that we believed the total project would cost befinreen $125,000 and $150,000. Staff believes we will be under $125,000 for the system as proposed. Since the system will be rented as the facility is rented there will be some return revenue. We are now at a point where the system would be utilized. There will be a rental rate structure attached to the use of this system, which is standard for most large facilities with timing capabilities. Monies for the system will come from Fund 242 which is for the Aquatic Center and has an adequate balance to cover the cost.
