'�.���� ADMINISTRATIVE CONFERENCE ROOM I. CALL TO ORDER Committee Chair Julien Bloch called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. II. O � m w 'i° � Qa � azaa > o � PRESENTATION on Disaster Preparedness � Emergency Services Coordinator for the Riverside County Fire Department, Kathleen Henderson, presented information to the members on disaster preparedness. She discussed the importance of families having both a fire plan and PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE JANUARY 7, 2013-MINUTES a plan in the event of a natural disaster. Ms. Henderson noted that each household should stock enough water to sustain family members and pets for at least seven to ten days; specifically, one gallon per day, per family member. She indicated however that in the desert, it would be wise for residents to store more water in case a disaster occurs during the summer time. Ms. Henderson also listed other important arrangements for families to predetermine such as an out of state contact and an agreed upon meeting place for family members. Ms. Henderson mentioned that the City of Palm Desert is hosting a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training for residents. She stated that there is also a Teen CERT Training that would be beneficial for any teens interested. Ms. Lawrence noted that she would get more information to the members on this training. V. APPROVAL OF MINUTES A. APPROVAL OF THE DECEMBER 3, 2012, MEETING MINUTES Member Daniel Sanford moved, by Minute Motion, to approve the minutes of fhe December 3, 2092, meeting. Motion was seconded by Member Andrew Mehta and carried by unanimous vote. VI. NEW BUSINESS None VII. OLD BUSINESS None VIII. CONTINUED BUSINESS A. DISCUSSION of Proposed Activities/Subcommittees for 2012/13 Ms. Lawrence indicated that Palm Desert Charter Middle School (PDCMS) is in need of volunteers on Saturday, January 26, from 5:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., to set up and tear down their 5K fundraiser event. She circulated a sign-up sheet and encouraged members to volunteer. Ms. Lawrence also retayed that members are welcome to participate in the event and that anyone interested should see her for more information. With regard to the youth/senior technology training, Ms. Lawrence reported that the Joslyn Center contacted her to express their interest in hosting the event. Upon further discussion, it was suggested fhat Ms. Lawrence make contact with an assisted living center to field their interest as welt. Ms. Lawrence agreed to do so and noted that whichever location is selected for the event, the Committee can chose the date at the next meeting. 2 PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE JANUARY 7, 2013-MINUTES Ms. Lawrence conveyed that she would contact the blood bank and obtain more information on Supervisor John BenoiYs "Youth in Government Day" and provide an update to the Committee at the next meeting. Ms. Lawrence assured that the Youth Committee webpage is almost complete and noted that she would contact Member Mehta and the other members interested in maintaining the webpage to set up training. B. REPORT of Subcommittee Assignments 1. Lincoln Elementary School Holiday Party— FOLLOW UP Member Wes Wohlmuth indicated that the Lincoln Holiday Party went very well this year despite not having Mrs. Claus present. 2. PDCMS Afterschool Program Presentation — FOLLOW UP Chair Bloch noted that at the request of PDCMS, this presentation has been rescheduled for Thursday, January 10. 3. Car Wash Fundraiser for Shelter From the Storm None 4. Anti-Bullying Campaign/Assemblies None 5. Legislative Subcommittee Vice Chair Jason Rosenblum relayed that he is not able to attend the City's Legislative C.ommittee meeting in January due to school finals occurring on that day. He assured that he would attend the February meeting and report back to the members of the Youth Committee's Legislative Subcommittee on what was discussed so that they can establish their mission and guidelines. STAFF Ms. Lawrence stated that Mayor Jan Harnik asked her to relay to the Committee that although she has not been abte to attend the last few meetings, she does intend to stay involved and that the Youth Committee is one of her favorite groups to work with. XI. ADJOURNMENT Upon motion by Member Roman Bloch, and second by, Member Taylor Schmidman, the meeting was adjourned at 6:25 p.m. Motion carried by unanimous vote.
