SUBMITTED BY: Stephen Y. Aryan, Risk Manager DATE: February 14, 2013 CONTENTS: Ordinance No. 1253 Recommendation By Minute Motion, waive further reading and pass Ordinance No. 1253 to second reading. Commission Recommendation The Palm Desert Public Safety Commission is scheduled to review this item on February 12, 2013, after this report was prepared. Staff can provide an oral update on the Commission's recommendation upon request. Backqround Staff recommends amending Sections 2.48.110 & 2.48.090 of the Palm Desert Municipal Code. These sections relate to the "City Manager's Duties" and the "Declaration of a Local Emergency" specifically related to an emergency incident succession strategy, which lists staffing positions no longer filled due to the City's recent reorganization. Staff recommends that the City Council approve these administrative modifications that will better assist the City during a major emergency incident and do not significantly alter the original intent of the specific code sections.
