REQUEST: APPROVAL TO CONTINUE MONTHLY MAINTENANCE COSTS
THROUGH AUGUST 1, 2013, ASSOCIATED WITH VARIOUS
MAINTENANCE VENDORS AT THE POLICE SUBSTATION LOCATED
AT 73-520 FRED WARING DRIVE.
SUBMITTED BY: Stephen Y. Aryan, Risk Manager
DATE: March 28, 2013
Recommendation
By Minute Motion, approve continuing monthly maintenance costs through
August 1, 2013, associated with maintenance provided by Wurms Janitorial, Aqua
Serv, and ThyssenKrupp Elevator at the police substation located at 73-520 Fred
Waring Drive.
Background
Approximately two years ago, the Palm Desert Police Department relocated its headquarters
to the new Sheriff Facility location at 73-705 Gerald Ford Drive. Due to cost constraints, the
Police Department opted to maintain 911 dispatch operations at the previous facility, now
substation, located at 73-520 Fred Waring Drive.
The Riverside County Sherriff's Department also has the option to relocate other County
personnel into this facility. The County and City entered into a lease agreement, and the City
has responsibility for maintenance operations.
Several of these vendors identified below have expired agreements. Staff wishes to continue
on a month to month basis with these vendors until new estimates can be received. Staff
anticipates that new agreements should be in place by July 1, 2013. Any vendor selected will
also be required to obtain necessary security clearances. The following vendors are
recommended to continue on a monthly basis until such time:
WURMS Janitorial: Currently cleaning only the 10,000 square feet currently occupied. The
County is obligated to lease the entire 25,393 square feet starting October 1, 2012; therefore,
they could expand their operation at any time.
Aqua Sery :Required chemical balancing for water in A/C chiller system
ThvssenKruoD Elevator: The substation has one functional elevator that provides access to
the facility's basement and requires regular inspection and maintenance.
