Background On May 27, 2010, City Council approved Contract No. C29780 with Kimley-Horn and Associates in the amount of $271,200 for engineering services for the design of the Fred Waring Drive and Monterey Avenue Improvement Project. The Plans and Specifications are now substantially complete and are ready for advertisement. The project is intended to improve traffic flow on Fred Waring Drive, and alleviate traffic congestion on Monterey Avenue by increasing the number of lanes along Monterey Avenue and adding various turn pockets along Fred Waring Drive. Additional right-of- way is required for the construction of the additional lanes and the turn pockets from the Successor Agency to the Palm Desert Redevelopment Agency and College of the Desert (COD). City staff has coordinated with both agencies to acquire the necessary right-of-way to construct the project. The acquisitions are pending the final recordation of the documents.
