Whereas, the citizens of Palm Desert recognize the vital role that
swimming and aquatic -related activities play in good physical and mental health,
thereby enhancing their quality of life; and
Whereas, it is important that everyone understands the essential role that
water safety education plays in preventing drowning and recreational water -related
injuries; and
Whereas, the National Water Safety Month Coalition's mission is to
develop safe and enjoyable aquatic activities for the American public, from home
pools and spas, to water parks and resorts, to public swimming and water recreation
facilities; and
Whereas, contributions made by the National Water Safety Month
Coalition have provided healthy places to recreate, learn and grow, build self esteem
and confidence, which all contribute to the quality of life in our community; and
Whereas, it is vital to understand the importance of communicating water
safety rules and programs to families and individuals of all ages, whether owners of
private pools, users of public swimming facilities, or visitors to water parks.
Now, Therefore, I, Jan C. Harnik, Mayor of the City of Palm
Desert, California, Do Hereby Proclaim the month of May 2013 as
Water Safety Month
in the City of Palm Desert and urge all residents to take necessary actions to
become familiar with and promote water safety.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and have
CITY COUNCIL ACTION caused the Official Seal of the City of Palm Desert,
APPROVED DENIED California, to be affixed this 9th day of May, 2013.
