Aryan, Risk Manager DATE: May 9, 2013 Recommendation By Minute Motion, declare various miscellaneous salvaged items from the Palm Springs Art Museum -Palm Desert as surplus and authorize disposal as recommended. Background When the Palm Springs Art Museum took occupancy of the former Visitor Center facility, they indicated that there were various millwork and electrical lighting fixtures that they did not wish to retain. Staff recommended keeping these items as they came at a significant cost and could potentially be reutilized in a future project. These items are stored at the Joni Yard facility and need to be disposed of currently, as this site is being readied for sale. The Fire Department and various City departments utilized the bulk of the millwork. However, several items remain including a gas stove, miscellaneous lighting fixtures, and additional millwork. Staff recommends selling the approximately four "artichoke lights" because they are valued at around $5,000 each. The remaining items are recommended to be donated to a nonprofit agency that could utilize them. Staff has contacted Habitat for Humanity, and they may possibly take some items to their Palm Desert ReStore. The ReStore takes new and used donated materials and sells them, with proceeds going towards funding the construction of new Habitat homes in the Coachella Valley.
