to the City for Use by the Palm Desert Citizens on Patrol Program

Recommendation
k r
By Minute Motion, accept donation of vehicle from the County of Riverside to the City for use
by the Palm Desert Citizens on Patrol Program.
Discussion
Most of the vehicles used by the Palm Desert Citizens on Patrol (COPS) members are surplus
vehicles from the City's fleet (e.g., Ford Contours). As such, these vehicles are getting older
and require more repairs, and as a result, they may not be in operation much longer. The
County of Riverside offered to donate, from their surplus vehicles, a 2002 white Ford Explorer to
the City for use by the COPS Program. This vehicle appears to be in decent condition and is
more conducive for use by the COPS members than the smaller vehicles. Acceptance of this
vehicle donation from the County will add an additional vehicle to the COPS Program's fleet.
Therefore, when the older vehicles are no longer repairable, the Program will still maintain six to
seven operational vehicles.
Fiscal Analysis
This donation does not result in a significant fiscal impact to the City. Costs will include DMV
associated fees, such as change of ownership, as well as future repairs that may be required.
