Commission Recommendatlon At its regularly scheduled meeting of September 18, 2013, the Art in Public Places (AIPP) Commission unanimously recommended the approval of the proposed donation from Renova Energy Corporation (Renova) of Sun Catcher by Deborah Flowers for the set of traffic signal cabinets at the corner of EI Paseo and Larkspur. Executive Summary Renova, a solar company, contacted Public Art staff and proposed to donate the painting of a set of traffic signal cabinets to the City of Palm Desert. Staff suggested the set of cabinets on the corner of EI Paseo and Larkspur as the location for the donation. Renova selected Coachella Valley artist Deborah Flowers to create a design for the cabinets. The proposal that was created by Ms. Flowers is a geometric depiction of the sun with solar panels and is entitled Sun Catcher. There is no advertising for Renova in the design. Staff Report Renova Energy Corporation October 10, 2013 Page 2 of 2 Fiscal Analvsis Renova will be responsible for paying the artist's $1,000 fee as well as any applicable insurance costs. The City will be responsible for the preparation of the cabinets, at an estimated cost of $350; the UV/graffiti coating of the cabinets at an estimated $100; a plaque for the artwork at an estimated $125.
