Recommendation By Minute Motion: 1. Approve the purchase of a Bobcat S70 Skid Steer Loader with 48-inch angle broom attachment from Inland Bobcat, Inc., in an amount not to exceed $28,381.96; and 2. Appropriate $28,381.96 from Unobligated Fund 530 to Account No. 530-4195-415-4030, Fleet Equipment Replacement. Backctround The City's maintenance staff maintains the San Pascual Channel and the drainage channel in Section 29. The San Pascual Channel was modified several years ago by installing a curb in the channel that contains the water flow on the west side of the channel. City maintenance staff cleans this channel once every two months or more often if necessary. Maintenance staff is currently using a skip loader with a rigged up modification to drag the debris to the end of the channel, where it is accumulated and hauled away. This process is causing damaged to the skip loader and is not very efficient. Due to the narrowness of the bottom of the channel, it is necessary to rent a special skid steer loader with a 36-inch bucket to effectively clean the channel. In addition, the narrow loader will be used to load broken concrete onto trucks, grading for re-pouring of concrete and, due to its reduced size, will allow for easy access and use during sidewalk concrete and panel removals. This decreases the need for extensive physical labor, which in turn, reduces the risk of employee injuries. Also, the broom attachment is a tool that can be used during emergency cleanups for sweeping debris in large areas due to vehicular accidents and/or spills. The City Clerk published a Notice Inviting Bids for a Bobcat S70 Skid Steer Loader with a 48-inch angle broom attachment, or equivalent equipment. Riverside, California $28,381.96 Fiscal Analysis There is no fiscal impact beyond the cost of the equipment. However, purchase of this specialized equipment will allow maintenance staff to more efficiently maintain our drainage channels, avoid causing further damage to existing equipment, and reduce the money spent on rental equipment.
