STAFF REPORT
REQUEST: DECLARE FIVE CITY VEHICLES AS SURPLUS AND
AUTHORIZE DISPOSAL THROUGH AUCTION
SUBMITTED BY: Mark Greenwood, P.E., Director of Public Works
DATE: April 25, 2013
Recommendation
By Minute Motion, declare five City vehicles as surplus and authorize
disposal through auction.
Background
The following five vehicles are either non -operational or will soon be obsolete due to the
expiration of their CNG tanks. Staff recommends that the four operating vehicles be
declared as surplus and auctioned through a company that provides equipment/vehicle
auctions before the expiration of the tanks in order to maximize the value of the
vehicles.
No. 1 - Vehicle No. 175
1999 dedicated CNG F-250 (LP No. 029135) is currently out
of service due to the CNG tank expiration. Vehicle repair is
not recommended due to the depreciated value of the
vehicle and the significant cost to repair and replace the
CNG fuel tank.
No. 2 - Vehicle No. 66
2001 dedicated CNG Honda GX (LP No. 1086545) is one
of the pool vehicles in service; however, the CNG fuel tank
expires in December 2013. Due to the depreciated value of
the vehicle and the significant cost to replace the CNG fuel
tanks, auction is recommended.

No. 3 - Vehicle No. 65
2000 dedicated CNG Honda GX (LP No. 105074) is
designated to Martin Alvarez; however, it is rarely used and
the vehicle's CNG tank expires in 2014. Due to the
depreciated value of the vehicle and the significant cost to
replace the CNG fuel tanks, auction is recommended before
tank expires.
No. 4 - Vehicle No. 64
2000 dedicated CNG Honda GX (LP No. 1052073) is at the
maintenance yard without designation, but the vehicle's CNG
tank expires in 2014. Due to the depreciated value of the
vehicle and the significant cost to replace the CNG fuel tanks,
auction is recommended before tank expires.
No. 5 - Vehicle No. 62
1999 Bi-Fuel Ford Contour (LP No. 1017632) was placed out
of service due to safety concerns when another 1999 Contour
caught on fire. This vehicle is bi-fuel gas/CNG and the CNG
tank expires in 2014; therefore, auction is recommended
before tank expires.
