From: Raymond Preston [mailto:rayandcarynprestonCaxtra.co.nz] Sent: Sunday, January 12, 2014 6:31 PM To: Kajsa Thuresson-Frary Subject: Greetings From Gisborne New Zealand Greetings from Gisborne New Zealand and Happy New Year! I hope this finds you and the staff at the McCallum well. This is just a formal thank you to the McCallum Institute Committee for having me as a participant last year. I have continued on with my aesthetic journey and I have attached two artworks done by six year olds in my class based on a Van Gogh unit we did on my return. The children's reflections on their artworks were recorded on youtube and were truly amazing. Thank you once again for the fantastic opportunity and I look forward to returning in the future sometime. i Kindest regards, Caryn Preston z Monday, 13 January 2014 Dear Kajsa and Staff of the McCallum Institute, I would like to formally thank you for the opportunity that I had travelling to our Sister City of Palm Desert in 2013. This experience was a life changing. My time spent at the McCallum Institute was invaluable not only for me but also for all the students I teach. My time spent with fellow participants and teaching staff was also equal to none. I reflect often on what I have learnt and in my classroom 'Aesthetic Education' has become a big part of how my thinking about how learning is delivered. I hope to establish a connection with an American colleague and her class over the next few months where we will become a buddy class, learning about each other's countries, cultures and learning and possibly share our aesthetic experiences. I will continue to spread the message about what I have experienced and the opportunities that the McCallum has to offer. Palm Desert is an amazing place and even months after being there, I can still recall great memories and you are so lucky to have such a wonderful community resource that promotes the Arts. It truly is a beautiful place. I really appreciated the time, effort and hospitality expenses that were given to me. I was totally inspired with all that was presented. I only wished that I could be like the other teachers and have the follow-up opportunities to experience it all again with the students. As 2014 begins and a new school year starts I would just like to say again a big thank you for the fantastic experiences you gave me. Palm Desert teachers don't know how lucky they are to have such inspiring professional development on their doorstep. Kind Regards, Ca,ywretrnv S. One of my favourite quotes I share with others about aesthetic education... THE ",,' WITHDUT Fs, tS JT — ____.__ ""` _ ti. , . .
