ADMINISTRATIVE CONFERENCE ROOM 73-510 FRED WARING DRIVE, PALM DESERT, CA 92260 1. CALL TO ORDER Chair Andrew Mehta convened the meeting at 6:01 p.m. 11. PRESENTATION on Palm Desert's Student Art & Essay Contest L C U v s _'d �s Q , G r C r' f1:;�.-- c >-C��w's: Palm Desert's Public Art Technician Debbie Thompson noted that the City is currently seeking theme submissions for Palm Desert's annual Student Art & Essay Contest. She explained that the contest is open to grades K-12 and MINUTES PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE NOVEMBER 4, 2013 students can submit essays, individual artwork, or a group mural. She indicated that last year's theme ("Who is your Role Model?") was submitted by a Youth Committee member. Ms. Thompson relayed that anyone interested in submitting a theme for this year should send it to Ms. Amy Lawrence by Monday, December 2. Upon Ms. Thompson's request, members Daniel Sanford and Josie Ygnatowiz agreed to speak with the art teachers at Palm Desert High School about the contest. V. APPROVAL OF MINUTES A. MINUTES of the October 1, 2013, Meeting Rec: Continue to the meeting of December 2, 2013 Upon Motion by Member Sanford, second by Member Roman Bloch, and majority vote with members Victoria Delapaz, Emily Goldstone, Yung Kim, Zannie Murphy, Cassidy Quilling, and Taylor Schmidman absent, approval of the Minutes of the October 1, 2013, meeting was continued to the meeting of December 2, 2013. VI. NEW BUSINESS A. APPOINTMENT of Member(s) to lead the Pledge of Allegiance and provide a brief update on Committee activities at the City Council Meeting on Thursday, November 14, 2013 Ms. Riddle relayed that Ms. Lawrence recommended this item be continued to the December meeting as there is nothing new to report. VII. OLD BUSINESS None VIII. CONTINUED BUSINESS None IX. REPORTS AND REMARKS A. STAFF 1. Update on Planned Activities for 2013/14 None B. COMMITTEE MEMBERS 1. Anti -Bullying Subcommittee 2 MINUTES PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE NOVEMBER 4, 2013 Member Don Sandoval-Heglund indicated that the Subcommittee is currently working on the presentation for Lincoln Elementary School's Afterschool Program in December. 2. Legislative Subcommittee None 3. Paim Desert Sister Cities Foundation None 4. Strategic Plan None 5. Youth Committee Website Chair Mehta relayed that he had updated some of the web pages and is hoping to meet with Member Don Sandoval-Heglund and Ms. Lawrence soon to move the project forward. X.
