A. SELECTION OF A THEME AND TITLE FOR THE 2014
STUDENT ART AND ESSAY CONTEST
Ms. Thompson reported that she received two ideas from the
Youth Committee for the 2014 Student Art and Essay
Contest. Upon question by Commissioner Hough, Ms.
Thompson responded that the two ideas that the Youth
Committee suggested were "Stand up to Bullies" and "What I
Want to be When I Grow Up". Ms. Schwartz referred to the
staff report regarding the possible theme of Creating a
Design for a Mural to be placed on a wall in Palm Desert. If

this theme was selected and an acceptable design was
derived from it, there would be a possibility that the design
could become a mural to be placed on a wall. A couple of
other suggestions were "In My Dreams I Will Be...." and
"What I Want To Be..." After much discussion, it was the
concurrence of the Commission members to select "What I
Want To Be..." as the title for the 2014 Student Art and
Essay Contest.
It was moved by Commissioner Hough and seconded by
Commissioner Darby to approve the selection of "What I Want
