Backuround
At the June 26, 2014, City Council meeting, staff was directed to examine the feasibility
of renovating the communication infrastructure at the Palm Desert Historical Society
building located at 72-861 El Paseo Drive. The City -owned building's existing
communications wiring is old and causing connectivity problems with the phone,
Internet and other related systems. Time Warner Cable has provided an initial estimate
of approximately $15,000 to run cabling to the facility. Staff requires additional time to
obtain formal proposals from Time Warner Cable and other communications providers
that could renovate or replace the building's communications infrastructure. Staff
respectfully recommends appropriating the funds for this project. After receiving the
proposals, staff will move forward with the most efficient and cost effective solution and
provide an update to the City Council.
