Approve Saturday, December 27, 2014, date for the Palm Springs Art Museum in Palm Desert's Galen 5K Run/Walk; and 2. Approve course map to include road closures on Painters Path (from El Paseo to Fred Waring Dr. — behind Desert Crossing) and Edgehill (from El Paseo to Cahuilla Hills Park). Discussion The Palm Springs Art Museum in Palm Desert held their first annual Galen Resolution 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, January 25, 2014. While they originally wanted the annual event to take place the first Saturday in January, due to the event's coincidence with the Palm Springs International Film Festival, which is also held on that weekend, Museum staff is requesting to change the next event to the last Saturday in December. Attendance for this event is anticipated to reach 1,000 participants with all proceeds benefitting the Palm Springs Art Museum. The course (see attached map) is identical to what was approved by City Council and used for the last event which had minimal impact to the residential and business areas along the route. For those that were directly affected by the course (i.e. approximately 16 homes at the top west side of Edgehill, those in the Vista Paseo Community, and four homes south of the Desert Cities Baptist Church), the event producer mitigated any issues by personally working with them to find resolution. Additionally, alternate parking was made available for those wishing to utilize the Bump and Grind Trail the morning of the event. As for this event, staff will require the event producer to take these same measures, as well as any others identified to assure that the event has minimal impact to residents and businesses along the route. STAFF REPORT PALM SPRINGS ART MUSEUM IN PALM DESERT'S GALEN 5K RUN/WALK J U LY 10, 2014 PAGE 2 At this time, staff is only requesting approval of the Saturday, December 27, 2014, date and the course map/road closure timeline (to include road closures on Painters Path [from El Paseo to Fred Waring Dr. — behind Desert Crossing] and Edgehill [from El Paseo to Cahuilla Hills Park]) for the event so that the Palm Springs Art Museum can begin marketing and sending out "save the dates". With regard to road closures, staff recommends that the same traffic control timeline be utilized again this year, i.e. set-up of traffic control to begin at 5:30 a.m. with full clean-up by noon. The actual race time will be from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and Tops N' Barricades will open the roads as soon as all participants clear the course. Staff will work with the event producer regarding further details of the event and will bring any additional approvals required by City Council at a later date. Fiscal Analysis There is no fiscal impact related to this event as all costs will be covered by the event producer. ted By: Amy La rr nce Administrative Secretary Reviewed: Frankie►.Riddle Director of Special Programs Rudy Acosta Assistant City Manager n M.
