CITY OF PALM DESERT
PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
STAFF REPORT
REQUEST TO DECLARE VEHICLES, EQUIPMENT AND
VARIOUS MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS AS SURPLUS AND
AUTHORIZED DISPOSAL AS PROPOSED
Mark Greenwood, P.E., Director of Public Works
June 12, 2014
List of Vehicles, Equipment, Miscellaneous Items and Photos
By Minute Motion, declare vehicles, equipment and various miscellaneous
items as surplus and authorized disposal as proposed.
Background
The vehicles, equipment and various miscellaneous items on the attached list are
surplus, non -operational, or are no longer needed. The following recommendation is
made for disposal:
Items 1 and 2 — Vehicle No.70, 2002 F-150 CNG license plate No. 1136763, is currently
out of service. This vehicle needs a new CNG fill nozzle and due to the depreciation
value of the vehicle and the significant cost of repair, it is recommended to surplus and
auction the vehicle.
Vehicle No.47 — 2000 F-150 CNG license plate No. 1068747, is a spare vehicle and the
CNG tanks expire in August 2014. It is recommended to surplus and auction the
vehicle.
Items 3 through 12 — These items were intended to be used for maintenance and
repairs to fleet and equipment. Although the City previously had an in-house
mechanic, this equipment was seldom used as intended. All vehicles and equipment
are outsourced for maintenance and repairs. This equipment has been inactive for
more than 14 years. It is recommended to surplus and have the items auctioned.
Item 13 — This item is a flail mower it is used for mowing grass and weeds from rights -
of -way. The City owns two flail mowers, and for our needs one is sufficient. It is
recommended to surplus and have it auctioned.

Item 14 — This small trailer was donated to the maintenance yard by the Fire
Department. The Fire Department determined that it was too small for their needs.
Due to its size, is not feasible for the maintenance needs. It is recommended to
surplus and have it auctioned.
Item 15 — These are two metal doors and frames. They were left over when the 74705
42nd Avenue building was completed, and they have been in storage for more than 17
years. It is recommended to surplus and auction the items.
Item 16 —_The Fuel Lock system is the old fuel tracking system that was installed in
1995 and was never activated. This unit is outdated and no longer needed. It is
recommended to dispose as scrap metal and e-waste.
Items 17 through 26 — These items are extra office furniture, some are in good shape
and others are damaged. A number of them have asset numbers, while others do not.
It is recommended to surplus and discard damaged items and auction the items that are
in good shape.
Item 27 — This is a plotter and a roller intended for fabrication of signs. It was
purchased in 2005, and was never used as intended due to the complications of the
program and other un-foreseeable significant costs to fabricate signs. It is more cost
effective to order signs directly from a sign vendor. It is recommended to surplus and
have the items auctioned.
Fiscal Analysis
Approval of this request will generate funds that will go back into the City's general fund.
