IV. PRESENTATIONS V[:RIFIF.D BY: DK
Original on File with City Clerk's Office
MINUTES
PALM DESERT YOUTH COMMITTEE APRIL 7, 2014
A. Presentation by Patricia Scully on Political Campaigning
Ms. Lawrence introduced Ms. Patricia Scully from Congressional Candidate
Brian Nestande's office. She added that Ms. Scully is a former City of Palm
Desert employee and that during her time with the City she oversaw the
creation of the Palm Desert Youth Committee and served as the former
advisor. Ms. Scully stated that when the Youth Committee began they had
only four members.
After extensive discussion on the subject of political campaigning, Ms. Scully
indicated that there are two opportunities for high school students to assist
with the campaign; one is to volunteer and one is to intern. She described
each position and asked Member Cory Hutchinson, who is currently serving
as an intern for the campaign, to provide information about his experience.
Member Hutchinson noted that the experience so far has been very
interesting and indicated that he is currently polling people over the phone
and recently began precinct walking. He explained that class credits are
available for interning as long as certain school and class requirements are
met and encouraged others to participate citing that political campaign
internships look great on college applications no matter what subject
members plan to study.
Ms. Lawrence thanked Ms. Scully for providing such an informative
presentation and noted that members can contact her directly if they would
like to obtain Ms. Scully's contact information.
