Sheriff's Department after serving five years in the United States Marine Corps; and
Whereas, in May of 1994, he graduated from the Riverside County Sheriffs
Academy and began his career at the Southwest Detention Center. He was
transferred to patrol at the Palm Desert Sheriffs Station in October of 1995; and
Whereas, on January 31, 1997, Kevin was assigned to the first motor officer
position for the City of Rancho Mirage. On December 28, 2000, he was promoted to
the rank of Sergeant and assigned to the Indio Station. He was then transferred to
the San Jacinto Station to assist with the transition from San Jacinto Police to a
Sheriff's contract; and
Whereas, on October 13, 2005, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant
and worked at the Larry Smith Correctional Facility, San Jacinto Station, Special
Investigations Bureau, and Technical Services Bureau; and
Whereas, he was awarded the Medal of Merit on March 25, 2009, for the
development and implementation of a database program to streamline police report
approval and processing steps; and
Whereas, on November 3, 2011, Kevin was promoted to the rank of Captain
and assigned as the station commander for the Palm Desert Station, serving as the
Chief of Police for the cities of Palm Desert, Rancho Mirage and Indian Wells; and
Whereas, for his leadership at the Sheriffs Technical Services Bureau he
was awarded "Manager of the Year" for the Riverside County Sheriff's Department
on April 4, 2012; and
Whereas, on November 12, 2014, Kevin Vest was promoted to the rank of
Chief Deputy and will be leaving the Palm Desert Station to head the Sheriff's
Central District Patrol Operations.
Now, Therefore, I Van G. Tanner, Mayor of the City of Palm Desert,
California, Along with the Entire City Council, Do Hereby Proclaim Thursday,
November 13th, 2014, as
Captain Kevin Vest Day
in the City of Palm Desert and urge all residents to join me in expressing our
appreciation for his contributions and service to our community, with our best wishes
for many years of continued success in the future.
