The live show kicks off on November 29, bringing the sounds of the season to Palm Desert, a sensational way for families, friends, local residents, and out of town visitors to get into the festive spirit taking over the Coachella Valley. Guests are invited to deck the halls of JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday beginning Saturday, November 29 through Sunday, December 28. The elaborate performance will take place at the resort's JW Pavilion, with a cocktail reception at 7pm every Friday and Saturday followed by an 8pm show time. Tickets are also available for a 2pm Sunday matinee, ideal for pairing with Rockwood Grill's Sunday Brunch. Tickets will be available for purchase online, through the resort's concierge, and at the front door - $30 general admission, $15 for children ages 3 to 15, and $55 for a VIP ticket, which includes two complimentary drinks and premiere seating for a closer view of the live show. Guests can extend their festive experience at Rockwood Grill, Mikado's, or Fisherman Landing and receive 20% off their meal when they show a valid ticket stub or receipt for the show. The night of music will commence with a festive cocktail reception, featuring spirited libations, hot chocolate, and other merry treats, followed by a theatrical performance from the talented 12-person team comprised of Broadway -credited artists. Accompanied by a live band, the cast will serenade guests with holiday classics performed in the style of today's popular artists and rock and roll legends. Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas" and Cee-Lo Green's "That's What Christmas Means to Me" are just a sampling of the hits that will have both younger and older generations singing and dancing in the "new, old-fashioned way." This live show is the first of its kind for the Desert Springs resort and General Manager Ralph Scatena is jubilant about this sweet-sounding event. Backqround The City of Palm Desert received a request from the General Manager of the JW MarriotYs Desert Springs Resort for sponsorship of a new event organized for the purpose of increasing awareness and building business during a traditionally softer season. The Marriott will host Rockin' the Holidays Musical Review on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from November 28 through January 2. The program will target audiences of all ages and includes a musical review of celebrated holiday classics performed by Broadway and off-Broadway artists. Matinee and evening performances will be available to local residents as well as hotel package offers available for regional consumers. Marriott hopes to make this an annual event that will ultimately define Palm Desert and the JW Marriott as a holiday destination among Southern California consumers. Goals identified by the Marriott include: • Drive local attendance to build awareness of the venue and partake in the holiday experience • Create buzz with existing guests to drive repeat business during holiday time period • Provide programming that can be marketed to local drive market to build occupancy over softer time periods to help replace lost group business Staff Report Sponsorship for Rockin' The Holidays Musical Review November 13, 2014 Page 2 of 2 According to their program outline, the Marriott will be undertaking the following marketing/advertising efforts: • Local and regional television advertising/interviews • Local and regional radio advertising/interviews • Carolers on EI Paseo promoting the shows • Local and regional print advertising (PS Life, Desert Sun, The Entertainer, etc) • Social media channels and public relations • Marriott.com website exposure • In-market events (Westfield, The Gardens, etc) Marriott is requesting a $15,000 contribution to assist with marketing of these activities which they feel will drive consumer traffic into the City and ultimately increase TOT. General revenue projections for ticket, retail and restaurant sales related to these activities is $400,000. Staff believes there to be a benefit to supporting this effort and recommends a $10,000 contribution for this first year event. Geared towards audiences of all ages with a family focus. The program will feature matinee and evening performances which is available to local residents of the Coachella Valley, existing travelers staying in the destination as well as hotel packages sold for the JW Marriott.
