Background
A. Property Description:
In September 2001, the Planning Commission approved a master plan for a 12-acre
property owned by the former Palm Desert Redevelopment Agency. The master plan,
known as Entrada del Paseo, included several pads for development and the Eric
Johnson Memorial Gardens. Most of the property has been developed, and is currently
occupied by Cuistot French Restaurant, La Spiga Italian Restaurant, the Palm Springs
Art Museum in Palm Desert, and the Chamber of Commerce in the Henderson
Building. One pad is currently vacant and the former Redevelopment Agency must sell
the property as part of the dissolution of California redevelopment agencies.
The property totals .68 acres and is located between La Spiga and the Henderson
Building, as shown in the image below:
City staff is investigating the possibility of building a new outdoor multi -use pavilion that
may be used for the Certified Farmers Market and other community events for the
public on the property. The City would be required to buy the property at fair market
value from the Successor Agency to the Palm Desert Redevelopment Agency to retain
ownership for such an outdoor multi -use pavilion.
