Whereas, many adults are lacking the literacy skills necessary to
secure the jobs of tomorrow; and
Whereas, the economic prosperity and stability of our community
is significantly affected by every individual's ability to read, write, and
communicate effectively; and
Whereas, tutors are local volunteers who have a sincere interest
in community service and the desire to assist other adults to learn to read
or to enhance their reading skills and lives; and
Whereas, the Riverside County Library System Adult Literacy
Program works with adults seeking to improve their literacy skills and
enable them to achieve greater success in their lives — at home, at work,
and in the community.
Now, Therefore, I, Van G. Tanner, Mayor of the City of
Palm Desert, California, Along With the Entire City Council, Do Hereby
Proclaim the month of September 2014, as
Adult Literacy Awareness Month
in the City of Palm Desert and urge all residents to become aware of the
adult literacy program offered by the Riverside County Library System.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and
have caused the Official Seal of the City of Palm
Desert, California, to be affixed this 25th day of
September, 2014
