What Are the Strengths of the City of Palm Desert?
What Are the City's Internal Weaknesses/Challenges?
What Are the External Factors/Trends (e.g., economic, political, demo-
graphic, technological) that Will/Might Have an Impact on the City of
Palm Desert in the Next Three Years:
• Positively (opportunities)?
• Negatively (threats)
Develop a Mission Statement (one sentence that states whv the City
Government of Palm Desert exists and for whom)
Identify Core Values/Guiding Principles for the City
• Brainstorm Values
• By Consensus, Select 5-7 Core Values
Develop a Vision Statement (one sentence that states what you want the City
of Palm Desert to become/achieve/be recognized for in 5 years; a vivid,
descriptive image of the future)
Identify Three-Year Goals what the City of Palm Desert needs to achieve)
• Brainstorm Goals (broad issues that need to be addressed such as:
Enhance financial stability, Maintain and improve the infrastructure,
Enhance economic development)
• By Consensus, Select 4 or 5 Goals

The meeting will be�in promptiv at 8:30 a.m. There will be mid-morning and mid-
afternoon breaks with a group lunch daily at 12:00. No cell phone calls/audible

Review the Role of the Facilitator, Recorder, Group and Public and the
Agenda — Marilyn Snider, Facilitator
Review the City of Palm Desert:
• Mission Statement
• Vision Statement
• Core Values/Guiding Principles
• Three-Year Goals (2008-2011)
Identify Six-Month Strategic Objectives how the goals will be addressed
initially — by when, who will be accountable, for what specific, measurable
results) for each of the Three-Year Goals
Next Steps/Follow-Up Process to Monitor the Progress on the Goals and
Objectives (including setting a date for a six-month update of the plan)
Summary of the Retreat
Closing Remarks
