HomeMy WebLinkAboutPrsntatn - Friends of the Desert Mountains Volunteer Day Whereas, providing service to the community is a hallmark of the American philosophy and is both fundamental and essential to how the challenges of the Friends of the Desert Mountains are met; and Whereas, the mission of the Friends of the Desert Mountains is to preserve land, to support education, conservation and research in the Coachella Valley, and to act as the support organization for the Santa Rosa & San Jacinto Mountains National Monument; and Whereas, Friends of the Desert Mountains volunteers provide a range of services, including trail maintenance, Citizen Science research, cleanup of trash and illegal dumping on public lands, invasive species removal, natural history education for adults and youth, and other valuable services where their experience, talents and skills are best appreciated and utilized; and Whereas, the Friends of the Desert Mountains volunteer program is open to all people in our community and has been in the Coachella Valley for over 30 years; and Whereas, in fiscal year 2017-2018 their volunteers contributed 17,368 hours of volunteer service, equating to $505,249 in added value to the community. Now, Therefore, I, Susan Marie Weber, Mayor of the City of Palm Desert, California, Along With the Entire City Council, Do Hereby Proclaim Thursday, January 24, 2019 as Friends of the Desert Mountains Volunteer Day in the City of Palm Desert, and join with the community in thanking them for their gracious service throughout the Coachella Valley.
