CONCRETE - $1,500.00 GEORGE BRAZIL PLUMBING - $4,404.05 H & H ORNAMENTAL IRON - $2,000.00 ZEUS CONSTRUCTION - $3,200.00 Recommendation: By Minute Motion, that the Agency Board authorize: 1. Ratification of health and safety issues in an amount totaling $12,024.46. 2. Executive Director to execute any documentation necessary to complete. Funds available in account 850-4545-466-4001. Executive Summarv: Acceptance of this staff recommendation will ratify work that needed to be completed by the Agency prior to September 22, 2005, at the childcare facility located at 44-911 Cabrillo Avenue as required in our agreement with Desert Sands Unified School District. The work addressed immediate health and safety code issues, and allowed for the facility to accommodate Palm Desert's displaced students by the start of the school year. Discussion: The Agency Board approved the lease agreement for the building known as the Wallaroo Children's Center between the Palm Desert Redevelopment Agency and Desert Sands Unified School District on July 14, 2005. The agreement outlines the duties and responsibilities of each agency with regard to the renovation of the facility. Staff Report Ratification of agreed upon renovation of the Wallaroo Child Care facility to address immediate public health and safety concerns Page 2of3 November 10, 2005 The Wallaroo facility sat vacant for approximately one year prior to the Agency purchasing the property. Once owned by the Agency, the facility was broken into and vandalized by vagrants during the negotiation process with the School District. Much of the work that needed to be done at the facility was the direct result of the numerous vandalizing incidents, which left the building a safety hazard to the community. The Agency was tasked with accomplishing the improvements as set forth in the agreement in the most expedient way possible to avoid any health and safety threats to the community, and to accommodate the Desert Sands students that had to occupy the facility by September 22, 2005. The work has been broken down into two phases. The first phase was ratified by the City Council on October 13, 2005. The second phase addresses health and safety concerns that pertain to functionality. The work completed in Phase II addressed the following: • Parking lot improvements • Air conditioning repair and maintenance • Fence repair/Dry Well Cover • Concrete for dry well Phase II work totals $12,024.46 and represents the completion of all Agency obligations as set fourth in agreement between Desert Sands Unified School District and the Redevelopment Agency.
