Recommendation:
By Minute Motion, that the Agency Board ratify Construction Change Order No. 5 in the
amount of $15,723.29 to WDL Construction of Palm Desert, California, for seven
miscellaneous field -directed changes necessary for the construction of the new Visitor
Information Center at Entrada del Paseo.
The funding necessary for this added work is available in Account No. 850-4358-433-
4001.
Discussion:
On 9 September 2004, the Agency Board awarded Contract No. R19540-A to WDL
Construction for the construction of a new 8,200 square foot Visitor Information Center.
During the construction process, some unanticipated conditions have arisen which have
necessitated that the contractor perform additional work. These changes are minor in
nature and are typical for a project of this magnitude. They include: addition of one roof
drain; revising ductwork and two HVAC grilles to avoid conflicts with structural steel
members; adding sheet metal flashing for moisture protection near the sloped roof soffit;
providing a sunshade for the mechanical equipment located on the building roof;
providing visual display boards in two meeting rooms, and similar modifications.
Because the changes described above did not impact work on critical path items
identified in the current construction schedule for the Visitor Information Center, no
contract time extension is necessary.

The work included in Change Order No. 5 was approved by the Executive Director
under the authority granted by Section 3.30.270 of the Palm Desert Municipal Code.
This same section of Code requires this report of the Executive Director's action.
To date, the non -elective change orders on this project have totaled 1.8% of the original
contract value, which is well within industry standards for a project of this size.

This change order provides for all work associated for the addition of (1) 2" roof drain and related drain p[iping at the
mid -level roof of the high turret.
Upon review of the roof plan, it was clarified in RFI #059 that a new 2" roof drain and drainage piping system was
required at the mid -level roof of the high turret.

DESCRIPTION OF CHANGE/REASON FOR CHANGE:
This change order provides all work associated for the revision of HVAC duct, vent modifications for (2) grilles at the
Gallery above the Information Desk, and the replacement of (3) light fixtures previously installed.
There were (2) ducts feeding separate grilles that by design would not work due to conflicts with structural steel
members. Architectural Supplementary Instructions #36.1 revised (1) duct location across the room and changed both
HVAC grille sizes.
COST OF CHANGE: $1,92S.331

DESCRIPTION OF CHANGE/REASON FOR CHANGE:
This change order provides for all work associated for the installation of framed sunshade canopy over the Systecon
pumping package equipment located on the building roof.
When observing the location of the equipment pumping package relative to the height of the surrounding roof parapets,
the Systecon installer recommended the equipment be sunshaded for heat protection. Architectural Supplementary
Instructions #014 was generated that provided for a framed sheet metal canopy to protect the equipment from the
seasonal extreme heat conditions.
