Eastern Division of the Riverside County Fire Department, California
Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, Historical Society of Palm Desert,
and Desert Sands Unified School District train Palm Desert third grade
students in fire prevention and personal safety through the Fire Prevention and
Mini -Muster program; and
Whereas, this year's Fire Prevention and Mini -Muster program
celebrates its 13th year at Gerald Ford Elementary, Abraham Lincoln
Elementary, and George Washington Elementary Schools, and its eighth year
at James Carter Elementary School; and
Whereas, firefighters and volunteers will continue to train Palm Desert
students to maintain standards which will ensure a fire safe city for many years
to come.
Now, Therefore, I, Buford A. Crites, Mayor of the City of Palm Desert,
California, Do Hereby Proclaim the month of October, 2005, as
Fire Prevention and Mini -Muster
Month
in the City of Palm Desert and urge all citizens to pay tribute to
the children who participated in this most worthwhile event.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and have caused
the Official Seal of the City of Palm Desert, California, to be affixed
this 22nd day of September, 2005.

MINI -MUSTER
A Fire Safety Program
Each October since 1993, the Historical Society of Palm Desert has coordinated "MINI -MUSTER" a fire safety
program for the Desert Sands Unified School District. The Riverside County Fire Station #33 directs the field
operations with the assistance of Station #55 and Volunteers from area stations.
Firefighters provide and operate "Hands On" team type field activities for third grade students of James Carter,
Gerald F;,,rd, Abraliam Lincoln, and George Waaliington Charter elementary schools. Children participate on the
fie!u in fine niorning. Following lunch, the "Awards Assembly" convenes complete with Smokey and Sparky.
The iaisfrwicel Society is proud to announce that at the close of the 2005 Muster over 6,600 studeror ; will have
experienced this valuable training.
You are in-ited to attend ari:, one or all of the four programs. This will be an excellent opportunity for you to
interact and deliver the fire prevention message to the children of the desert community. All Press, please wear
identification and check in at the school administrative office when you arrive.

2005 MINI -MUSTER CALENDAR
Tuesday August 23 Planning Meeting. Mini -Muster Plaques will be delivered to
Fire Station #33 by each Principal for update — 10:00 am.
Wednesday September 7
Schools will send announcement of M-M 2005 to parents.
Thursday September 15
Indian Wells will issue a Proclamation of Fire Prevention and
Mini -Muster Month in Indian Wells at 1:30 p.m. at the City
Council Chambers.
Thursday September 22
Palm Desert will issue a Proclamation of Fire Prevention and

Council Chambers.
Thursday September 22
Team Ribbons and Completion Certificates delivered to
teachers. Enter student names and dates on certificates.
Tuesday October 4
Mini -Muster Lincoln School. Prepare Volunteer Lists.
Thursday October 6 Mini -Muster Ford School. Prepare Volunteer Lists.
Tuesday October 11 Mini -Muster Carter School. Prepare Volunteer Lists.
Friday October 14 Mini -Muster new Washington Charter School. Prepare
Volunteer Lists.
Monday October 17 Fire Department and Schools must have ALL volunteer lists to
Historical Society by this deadline. Call 346-1755 for
assistance.
Wednesday October 19 Labeled art work for City Council Chambers and names of two
students from each class for Historical Society Art Award will
be picked -up at schools in the a.m. Invitations delivered to
schools.
Thursday October 20 AWARDS City Council Meeting, 1:30 p.m., City of Indian
Wells Council Chambers, Mini -Muster Recognition Day.
Courtesy of the Mayor of Indian Wells. Reps from Desert
Sands Unified School District, Historical Society of Palm
Desert, and Fire Stations #33 and #55 should plan to attend this
ceremony.
