REQUEST: AUTHORIZE TO AWARD CONTRACT TO TOWN & COUNTRY
TREE SERVICE TO REMOVE FIFTY-SEVEN PALM TREES AT THE
HOUSING AUTHORITY PROPERTY KNOWN AS LAGUNA PALMS
APARTMENTS.

Recommendation:
By Minute Motion, that the Palm Desert Redevelopment Agency:
1 } Award the contract to the lowest bidder of Town & Country Tree Service
(Barstow, California) in the amount of $19,950.00 to remove Fifty -
Seven palm trees located at Laguna Palms Apartments.
2) Authorize the Executive Director to execute the contract.
Executive Summarv:
The landscape architect has called for fifty-seven (57) palm trees to be removed from the
Laguna Palms Apartment complex. The palms conflict with the utility under grounding and
have outgrown the scale of the buildings. Landscape Services staff has inspected the site
and concur with palm tree removal plan.
Discussion:
On December 14, 2005 the City Clerk called for bids for the removal of fifty-seven (57)
palm trees located at the Palm Desert Redevelopment complex known as Laguna Palms
Apartments, 73-875 Santa Rosa Way. Bids were opened and read aloud on December 28,
2005 at 4:00 P.M. with the following results:
Town & Country Tree Service (Barstow, CA) $19,950.00
Desert View Tree Service (Palm Desert, CA) $29,925.00
A.J. Acosta Company Inc. (Big Bear Lake, CA) $44,175.00
The palm trees interfere with the proposed under grounding of utilities and must be
removed. The trees are Washingtonia robusta, have out grown the scale of the structures
in the complex and do not warrant relocation. The contract consists of removing fifty-seven
(57) palm trees including root balls. The contractor will also backfill holes with native soil.

The company is available to begin the work on January 30, 2006 and estimate that it will
take approximately two weeks to complete the job.
Therefore staff recommends by Minute Motion, that the Palm Desert Housing Authority
award the contract to Town & Country Tree Service (Barstow, CA) in the amount of
$19,950.00 to remove fifty-seven (57) palm trees located at Laguna Palms Apartments.
