Recommendation:
By Minute Motion, that the Agency Board:
Appropriate an additional $5,000 to Fund 850-4430-422-31.25; and
2. Approve the request for sponsorship of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of
the Year Awards by the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership for $5,000.
Executive Summarv:
The Coachella Valley Economic Partnership (CVEP) has requested a $5,000 sponsorship
for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year ® conference attendees' reception at The
Gardens on El Paseo on November 17, 2006. In return, Palm Desert will receive two
seats at the black tie event, recognition in The Desert Sun newspaper wraps during the
three days of the event, welcome speech at The Gardens event and the ability to place
brochure information into the 700 welcome bags for the attendees and their families.
Discussion:
Each year Ernst & Young holds its national entrepreneurial awards for 50 business
leaders in the City of Palm Desert at the Desert Springs Marriott. This will be the 20`h year
for the awards and a three-day program from November 16-18, 2006, includes business
discussions, networking activities, entertainment and a series of special guest speakers.
CVEP has assisted in the planning of this event over the last 10 years and has asked our
assistance in a $5,000 sponsorship of the reception at The Gardens on El Paseo on
Friday, November 17, 2006, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The sponsorship fee will include
two seats at the black tie event on Saturday, November 18, 2006, Palm Desert recognition
in The Desert Sun newspaper wraps during the event, participation in the welcome
speech at The Gardens event and the ability to place Palm Desert information into the 700
welcome bags for the attendees.

This opportunity allows Palm Desert to capitalize on the attention of 50 national
entrepreneurs to feature the City as a place for business and pleasure. Therefore, staff
requests Agency Board to approve the above recommendations.

This letter Is a request for sponsorship to join CVEP in hosting the Ernst & Young Entreproneur of the
Yeart Awards In Palm Desert. The awards ceremony brings together the 60 brightest business leaden
running some of the fastest growing and innovative companies from around the United Sates. CVEP
wants to capitalize on their attendance in Palm Desert to have them consider locating all or a portion of
their company.
To give you a brief history, entrepreneurs from across the country will gather in Palm Desert, Callfomla
from November 16.19. 2000 at the 20th annual Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Yeare Awards to
celebrate entreproneurlal achievement. The three-day program Includes business discussions,
networking activities, entertainment, and a series of special guest speaker. The weekend culminates in
a black to awards gala on Saturday, November 18 at which time recipients of the prestigious National
Ernst & Young Entreproneur Of The Year 2006 Award will be announced.
Representatives of the Ernst & Young Entroprenuer of the year have contacted Coachella Valley
Economic Partnership to begin planning for the 2006 event. In past years, CVEP has worked with the
City of Palen Desert, The Desert Sun and The Gardens on El Pasco to provide attendees with
information about the Coachella Valley. This year, Ernst and Young has provided CVEP with yet another
opportunity not only to provide registration bags and a newspaper wrap partnering with The Desert Sun,
but also would like to Invite their attendees to attend an organized shopping trip and reception at the
Gardens on El Pasco on November 18, 2006 from 2:00 p.m. —'5:00 p.m. This is a natural fit for Palm
Desert and for the Coachella Valley Economic Partnership since it brings hundreds of successful
entrepreneurs to our doorstep to reinforce the Uve, Worts, Play concept, plus this is an excellent
opportunity to showcase the 92260 zip code to over 700 entrepreneurs and their families.
With all the above being said and with this event being a unique networking opportunity with high level
exacutives and an opportunity to showcase both the City of Palm Desert and the Coachella Valley
Economic Partnership, we are requesting $5000.00 from the City of Palm Desert to sponsor the welcome
reception at the Gardens on El Pasco. In retum, City representatives will be given 2 seats at the Ernst &
Young black tie event, will receive sponsorship recognition in The Desert Sun Wrap that is placed around
all newspapers given to attendees for the 3 days of their conference, an excellent opportunity to Insert
the 92260 magazine Into the registration welcome bags and to address the conference attendees
audience at The Gardens reception. It should be noted that CVEP has received support from other Palm
Desert businesses, e.g., Westfield Shopping Plaza and CVEP has assisted in arranging for a real estate
tour. Most importantly, this venue reinforces the Palm Desert brand and keeps the recipients In the city
to, yet again, strengthen our joint message to entrepreneurs regarding unmatched quality of life and
location suitability.
