BOX 14247 PALM DESERT, CA 92255-4247 DATE: APRIL 24, 2008 CONTENTS: CHANGE ORDER NO. 1 Recommendation: By Minute Motion, that the Agency Board: (1) Approve Change Order No. 1 (no cost), extending the completion date to May 14, 2008, for Contract No. R21090A with Sierra Landscape Company, Inc., for the construction of Entrada del Paseo Phase 2 landscaping Executive Summary: Approval of staff recommendation will approve a no -cost change order to modify the Eric Johnson Phase 2 Landscaping project completion date from February 25, 2008, to May 14, 2008. Staff recommends approval. Discussion: On September 13, 2007, the Agency Board award Contract R21090A to Sierra Landscape Company, Inc., in the amount of $2,440,600 for the Entrada del Paseo Phase 2 Landscaping. The project includes the following components: • Eric Johnson Landscaping Phase II (Indian Canyon); • Multi -Sensory Gardens (north of Henderson Building); • Landscaping surrounding La Spiga Restaurant; • Landscaping adjacent to the Palm Valley Storm Channel Staff Report Approve Change Order No. 1 to Contract R21090A to Sierra Landscape Company, Inc. for construction of the Entrada del Paseo Phase 2 Landscaping Page 2 of 2 April 24, 2008 The Notice to Proceed was issued on October 29, 2007, with a 120 day completion (February 25, 2008). The project has made significant progress and is 85 percent complete. The Indian Canyon landscaping section (north of Visitor Center) encountered a delay in securing the specialized granite slabs required to complete the Parson Walls. The delivery of the slabs was delayed 78 days due to weather conditions (snow pack) in the Sierra Nevada region where the product is mined. Being a critical path component of the Indian Canyon section, no other work could be performed in this area until the Parson Wall system was installed. Sierra Landscaping has requested a change order to modify their contract completion date from February 25, 2008, to May 14, 2008. The Agency's Construction Manager and staff have reviewed the request and believe it is justifiable.
