R28590) SUBMITTED BY: HEATHER BUCK, PROJECT COORDINATOR CONTRACTOR: EARTH SCULPTURES 38-207 N. PRIMROSE LANE I N D I O, CA 92203 DATE: OCTOBER 22, 2009 CONTENTS: NOTICE OF COMPLETION Recommendation: By Minute Motion, that the Agency: Authorize the City Clerk to file a Notice of Completion for the project known as the Desert Willow Mountain View Course Renovation (Contract No. R28590). Executive Summary: Approval of staff recommendation authorizes the City Clerk to file a Notice of Completion for the Desert Willow Mountain View Course Renovation project located at 38-995 Desert Willow Drive. Discussion: On April 23, 2009, the Agency Board awarded Contract R28590 to Earth Sculptures in the amount of $826,784 for the renovation of the Mountain View Course at the Desert Willow Golf Resort. Staff Report Notice of Completion Desert Willow Mountain View Course Renovation Page 2 of 3 October 22, 2009 The contractor has successfully completed the project including, but not limited to the following: • Renovated all 18 greens, restoring the greens to original size and condition using new Tiff Dwarf sod. • Renovated/reshaped all greenside bunkers to address shape, ease of maintenance, installed bunker liners, repaired/installed drainage to all greenside bunkers, and installed new sand. • Re-established the lakes edges by removing excess grass and silt accumulations along all lake edges. • Renovated/reshaped all fairway bunkers to address shape, ease of maintenance, installed bunker liners, repaired/installed drainage systems to all fairway bunkers, and installed new sand. • Added cobble at lake edges to stabilize the ground along the shore line due to water encroachment. The cobble provides a firm foundation even with wicking action from the lake. The Contractor and Architect agreed that if we rebuilt the lake edges without installing the cobble the erosion problems and soft conditions would continue. • Rake caddie renovations/modifications: Since several bunkers were combined, added, and removed as part of the renovation project, additional rake caddies needed to be added, reinstalled, and repaired to complete the renovation. Earth Sculptures was able to protect in place nearly half of the existing bunker rake caddies. • Removed one bunker, reshaped and resoded on the Firecliff Course hole No. 11 (not included in original scope). Per Court Order, the City of Palm Desert was required to remove the first bunker on the left from the tees on hole No. 11 by December 15, 2009. Additionally, the Court Order required that additional trees be replaced and installed; Desert Willow staff has completed this work. The Mountain View Course will remain closed until November 2, 2009, when it is scheduled to reopen after reseeding has been completed.
