Palm Desert’s Civic Center Park Amphitheater is once
again the hot spot for live music in May with the return
of the City’s Spring Concerts in the Park.
On stage from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. every Thursday
in May, Palm Desert’s Spring Concerts will feature a
diverse range of talented performers designed to please
music lovers of all ages and tastes. The excitement kicks
off at the amphitheater on Thursday, May 4, with a
performance by Upstream, a beloved Caribbean music
group known for their infectious beats and positive
message. With a talented lineup of musicians delivering
reggae and calypso, Upstream is sure to get the crowd
moving and grooving.
The concert series continues on May 11 with We
Belong, a Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo tribute band; and
AMFM on May 18, a top L.A. party band playing it all
from favorite jazz standards to the Top 40. The season
will wrap up on May 25 with a return performance by
Yachty by Nature, playing your favorite “groovy soft
yacht rock tunes” from the late 70s and early 80s. Expect
to hear songs from artists like Michael McDonald, Hall
and Oates, Boz Scaggs, Steely Dan, Toto, Christopher
Cross, and more.
In addition to the great music, concertgoers can enjoy
the delicious culinary creations offered by a variety of
food trucks parked by the amphitheater or bring their
own picnic baskets along with their blankets or lawn
chairs to enjoy the shows. Alcoholic beverages and
smoking are prohibited at Civic Center Park.
Civic Center Park is located on the northeast corner
of San Pablo Avenue and Fred Waring Drive. For more
information, please call 760-568-1441.

The Development Services wing of Palm Desert City Hall is set to undergo a renovation
project this summer that will revamp its lobby, conference room, and public restrooms. The
aim of the project is to streamline operations, provide a more efficient use of space, and
allow staff to better serve their customers. The project will also bring the public counters and
restrooms into full compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
The project will begin in June and is expected to be completed in September. Customer
service staff working in Planning, Building and Safety, Code Enforcement, Public Works, and
the Permit Center may be temporarily relocated during construction. Directional signage will
be in place to guide visitors to City Hall during the renovation project.
As always, residents and business customers may also receive assistance from City staff
members by phone, email, or online. For more information, call the Permit Center at 760-776-
6435 or email permitcenter@cityofpalmdesert.org.

PALM SPRINGS AIR MUSEUM HOSTS
PALM DESERT DAY
Palm Desert residents and workers are invited
to enjoy a day at the Palm Springs Air Museum
free of charge on Saturday, May 6, as the
popular attraction celebrates Palm Desert Day.
Located at 745 N. Gene Autry Trail, the Palm
Springs Air Museum has over 70 aircraft on
display including the F-117 Nighthawk Stealth
Bomber. Named by CNN Travel as one of the
top aviation museums in the world, the museum

controlled hangars, with additional aircraft on
display on the tarmac.
Saturdays at the Air Museum are “Open
Cockpit” days. From 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.,
a selected aircraft is opened up and guests
are treated to the special experience of being
allowed to sit at the controls and pose for
pictures. Museum volunteers will be on hand
to answer questions and provide the historical
backdrop for the aircraft. A suggested $5
donation for the open cockpit experience
includes a souvenir photograph.
Palm Desert Day is sponsored by the City
of Palm Desert. To receive free admission,
individuals must show proof of Palm Desert
residency in the form of a California Driver’s
License or utility bill, or proof of employment
such as an ID badge or business card from a

Drowning is a preventable tragedy, yet it
remains the leading cause of accidental injury-
related death for children ages 1 to 4 in Riverside
County. Drowning is fast, silent, and a real threat
for all ages, not just children.
Nearly 90% of all drownings and near-
drownings occur in backyard pools or spas. A child
can lose consciousness in less than 30 seconds
and suffer irreversible brain damage after just four
minutes.
To reduce the threat of drowning, it is crucial to
remember the ABCs of water safety:
Adult Supervision
Assign an adult to keep their eyes on children
in the water at all times and stay within reach of
young children.
Barriers
Ensure that pools are protected by fences, self-
closing and self-latching gates, motion sensors,
and window and door alarms.
Classes
Parents and caregivers should take CPR and
First Aid courses, while swimming lessons are
recommended for both children and adults.
Private and group swim lessons are available at the
Palm Desert Aquatic Center, and the Family YMCA
of the Desert offers financial aid for swim lessons.
For more information, please call 760-341-9622.
MAKE POOL SAFETY A PRIORITY

June 2 to 11.
Diners can look forward to experiencing
an array of mouth-watering prix fixe menus
for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner at
numerous restaurants found throughout
the Coachella Valley. With prices ranging
from $15 to $35 per person for breakfast,

everyone’s taste and budget. Furthermore,

The City of Palm Desert’s committees and
commissions present a range of opportunities
for residents to meaningfully engage with
their local government and help lead their
community. More than 100 volunteers serve
on Palm Desert’s committees, and the City is
currently seeking applications from citizens
who wish to join them.
As Palm Desert ambassadors, appointed
members develop recommendations
reflective of the community, and provide the
City Council with perspectives to make policy
decisions that enrich our city.
Applications are welcome year-round with
interviews and appointments occurring in
May or June annually. With few exceptions,
appointed members must reside in Palm
Desert. Certain boards may also require
specific experience in a technical field or
have other qualifying criteria. Please carefully
review your preferred board’s requirements
to ensure eligibility.
For more information regarding each
board, including agendas and minutes, and
to complete an application, please visit www.

Look what’s on the BrightSide... inside!
An active lifestyle is essential for
good health, longevity, and quality of
life. The City of Palm Desert believes
all community members should have
access to free fitness and recreation
opportunities, and recently installed
ten new fitness machines at Civic
Center Park to meet that goal.
This new fitness zone can be found
between the park’s playgrounds and
basketball courts, and includes a step-
up station, hand cycle, skill trainer,
leg press, cardio walker, chest press,
and more. The selection of equipment
provides for a variety of workouts
including strength, cardiovascular, and
flexibility. The equipment is sized for
teens and adults and is designed to be
simple and easy to use.
Seven of the ten machines are ADA
accessible, adding an accessible fitness
component to the existing offerings
at Civic Center Park and expanding
the health benefits to even more
residents. Flooring was installed in the
fitness area to improve ease of access,
and two new shade structures aid in
keeping those workouts cool. Park
benches, waste receptacles, and a bike
rack were replaced in the area as well.
Outdoor exercise, a trend that grew
dramatically during the pandemic, is
here to stay. Stop by the fitness area
on your next visit to Civic Center
Park and give a fresh air workout a
try. For more information on the park’s
fitness equipment, call City Hall at
760-776-6481.
