COMMUNITY GALLERY EXHIBITION DISPLAYS
INJURIES OF TIME
The Palm Desert Community Gallery will highlight artwork from photographer
Hunter Johnson in its new exhibition, Injuries of Time, on display through June 28.
Johnson, whose photography comes out of his training and work as an
architect and sociologist, works to capture
specific details that isolate a strong graphic
element, reveal what otherwise might not
be seen, create an insight into our common
humanity, and tell a story that stirs
unexpected feelings.
Johnson focuses on capturing images
that are easily overlooked, showing the
present and preserving the past through
photography. His Injuries of Time series
records artifacts of man's attempts to tame
the natural world and how these survive,
(or don't) over time. He has served on the
Palm Springs Public Art Commission, the
Board of the Riverside Art Foundation, and
the Board of the Artists Council of the Palm
Springs Art Museum. A founding member
of Fugawi Photographers, Johnson
regularly shoots photos in California.
The Palm Desert Community Gallery
is located in Palm Desert City Hall and is
open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information,
please call 760-346-0611, ext. 664 or visit www.palmdesertart.org.
COUNTY SEEKING PUBLIC INPUT
ON TRANSPORTATION AND POSSIBLE TAX
Palm Desert is noted for its excellent infrastructure including smooth roadways and
synchronized traffic signals that make it relatively easy to get around town.
Commuters know that is not the case throughout Riverside County, where bumper
to bumper traffic, potholes, and other driving frustrations can be the norm rather than the
exception.
The Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC) has created
#RebootMyCommute, a public engagement campaign that urges feedback on
transportation from residents throughout Riverside County.
RCTC is conducting a review of the long-term transportation plan that Riverside
County voters approved in 2002 and will be adopting a new 10-year plan for highway and
transit priorities this summer.
As part of this review and priority -setting effort, RCTC will be considering an additional
countywide sales tax to improve transportation as Riverside County is facing a $12.6 billion
gap between its transportation needs and expected funding over the next 20 years.
Palm Desert residents and visitors are invited to share comments, photos and videos
now through June 2019 via the following tools:
■ Visit RebootMyCommute.org
■ Tag @TheRCTC and use #RebootMyCommute on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
■ Text "RCTC" to 55222
For more information and to share your feedback via telephone, please call
1-800-450-3650.

Next Step in Reimagined San Pablo
The City of Palm Desert will celebrate another significant step in
the creation of a new downtown on Wednesday, May 1, when the
City Council breaks ground on construction of a reimagined and
reconfigured San Pablo Avenue.
The 9 a.m. ceremony on northbound San Pablo, just north of
Alessandro Drive, will include information about San Pablo's
transformation into a key artery in a revitalized city center where
walking, biking, and fun are the focus.
Envisioned changes on San Pablo include new shade trees and
landscaping, wider sidewalks, pocket parks, enhanced bike lanes and
parking, a new roundabout at San Pablo and
San Gorgonio Way, and a "road diet" that will
narrow the wide, four -lane road to one lane in
each direction.
Many of these elements were demonstrated
in May 2016 during Vision San Pablo, an 11-day
demonstration project that gave residents, local
businesses, and visitors an advance look at
the proposed changes along with a street party
featuring live music, food trucks, and children's
activities.
For more information about San Pablo and
all of the exciting changes taking place, please
call 760-776-6384.
