SB 1383
•Senate Bill (SB) 1383 is a statewide effort to
reduce greenhouse gas emissions and address
food insecurity.
•Reduce organic waste disposal by 75% by 2025.
•20% of currently disposed edible food be
recovered for human consumption by 2025.
•SB 1383 is the most significant waste reduction
mandate to be adopted in California in the last
30 years.

•Palm Desert was the first city in the
Coachella Valley to roll out three-
bin system and kitchen pails.

•Grocery stores, restaurants and other
qualifying businesses must contract
with a Food Recovery Organization and
donate the maximum amount of edible

Desert businesses at no cost to them.
