What’s Inside
Palm Desert’s Concerts in the Park
series is back this May, offering five weeks
of live music and entertainment at Civic
Center Park. Every Thursday evening from
7 – 8:30 p.m., the outdoor amphitheater
will host an exciting lineup of performers,
featuring a mix of classic rock, Motown,
country, and pop hits. With free admission
and a welcoming community atmosphere,
this event is a great way to enjoy a spring
evening with family and friends.
The series kicks off on May 1 with TLR,
a tribute band dedicated to honoring the
legendary sound of the Eagles. Known for
their exceptional harmonies and authentic
renditions, TLR will transport audiences back
to the greatest era of classic rock with hits
like Hotel California and Take It Easy.
On May 8, Stone Soul takes the stage,
bringing along the best of Motown and
classic soul. With a high-energy performance
featuring favorites from artists like Stevie
Wonder, The Temptations, and The Four
Tops, this show will have the audience
dancing and singing along all night.
Boots, cowboy hats, and two-stepping
will be the theme on May 15, when Eric
Sage & Young Guns takes the amphitheater
stage with their high-energy style of County,
not only paying tribute to the greats, but
also featuring the rock-inspired modern
sounds of artists like Keith Urban, Big &
Rich, and more.
If you are looking for a performance that
spans generations, then you’ll want to be
at Civic Center Park on May 22, as Pop
Vinyl brings the greatest songs of yesterday
and today to the stage. Playing everything
from Earth, Wind & Fire to Bruno Mars,
and Al Green to Maroon 5, Pop Vinyl is
sure to provide an evening of non-stop
entertainment.
The series concludes with a tropical twist
on May 29; get ready to relax under the
stars as Jimmy’s Buffet takes center stage
to end the month in our own Palm Desert
version of paradise! With their laid-back
vibes and plenty of opportunities to sing
along to the legendary sounds of Jimmy
Buffett, you’ll feel like you are part of an
endless island party.
Concertgoers are encouraged to bring
blankets or lawn chairs to relax on the grass
while enjoying the performances. A variety
of food trucks will be on-site, offering
delicious options for those who want to
grab a bite during the show. Guests are also
welcome to bring their own picnic baskets.
Alcohol and smoking are not permitted.
With an exciting lineup, a beautiful
outdoor setting, and a festive community
atmosphere, Concerts in the Park is a can’t-
miss event this spring. Civic Center Park is
located at the northeast corner of San Pablo
Avenue and Fred Waring Drive. For more
information, call 760-568-1441.

Want to give back to your community and help
keep Palm Desert safe? Join Citizens on Patrol (COPS), a
volunteer program that supports the Palm Desert Police
Department by serving as extra eyes and ears throughout
the city.
COPS volunteers conduct non-confrontational patrols,
report suspicious activity, assist with traffic control at special
events, and help with programs like DUI checkpoints and
“Click It or Ticket.” They also oversee the Vacation Home
Check Program, providing peace of mind for residents who
are away for extended periods.
No law enforcement experience is needed, only a
valid driver’s license and a commitment of 20 hours per
month. Volunteers receive full training, including CPR/
First Aid certification, driver’s education, and traffic control
instruction.
Becoming a COPS volunteer is a great way to make a
positive impact in the community, meet new people, and
contribute to public safety. Ready to get involved? Call
760-862-9848 or visit PalmDesert.gov/COPS to apply
today!

HIKING SAFELY IN THE HEAT: ESSENTIAL TIPS FOR STAYING COOL AND PREPARED
Hiking in early summer can be an incredible way to
connect with nature, but high temperatures can quickly
turn a simple outing into a dangerous situation. Whether
you’re a seasoned hiker or just starting out, understanding
the risks of extreme heat and taking precautions can make
all the difference in staying safe on the trail.
Heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke are
serious concerns when hiking in higher temperatures.
Heat stroke, in particular, is a life-threatening emergency,
with symptoms that include confusion, rapid pulse,
dizziness, and a body temperature exceeding 103°F. If
you or someone in your group experiences these signs,
call 9-1-1 immediately and seek a cooler or shaded area.
Planning ahead is essential for hiking safely in the heat.
Starting early in the day helps avoid the most intense
temperatures, which typically peak between 10 a.m. and
4 p.m. Wearing lightweight, moisture-wicking clothing, a
wide-brimmed hat, and sunscreen can provide necessary
protection from the sun. Taking frequent breaks in
shaded areas and avoiding overexertion helps prevent
overheating. Sticking to established trails and respecting
all signage and closures is not just a safety measure,
it’s the law. Entering private property while hiking is
prohibited and may result in citations or fines.
Staying hydrated is one of the most important aspects of
hiking in the heat. Bring more water than you think you’ll
need and sip regularly, even when you don’t feel thirsty, to
help prevent dehydration. Caffeinated or alcoholic drinks
should be avoided, as they can contribute to dehydration.
Those on fluid-restricted diets or with underlying health
conditions should consult their physician before increasing
water intake.
Checking the weather and air quality before heading
out is another key step in preparing for a safe hike.
Hot days often bring poor air conditions, which can be
harmful, particularly for individuals with respiratory issues.
Websites like AirNow.gov provide real-time updates on
air quality levels in the area.
A safe hike is a successful hike, and being prepared,
staying alert, and looking out for fellow hikers ensures
an enjoyable experience for everyone. Respecting
nature goes beyond simply leaving no trace, it means
following posted signage, staying on designated trails,
and avoiding restricted or private areas. By honoring
the rules, knowing your limits, and hiking responsibly,
you can stay safe while preserving our trails for future
generations to enjoy.

hangars. The museum showcases a remarkable
collection of aircraft from World War II, the Korean

Look what’s on the BrightSide... inside!
Palm Desert is making pedestrian safety a top priority
with a new initiative encouraging drivers to slow down,
stay alert, and always yield to those crossing the street.
As part of the global “Vision Zero” project, the City aims
to eliminate traffic-related fatalities and severe injuries by
promoting safer streets for everyone.
We want to highlight our Very Important Pedestrians
(VIPs), because everyone walking through our
community deserves the VIP treatment. Whenever you
spot this message on local TV, radio, or social media, let
it serve as a friendly reminder to stay attentive, watch for
pedestrians in crosswalks, and do your part to make Palm
Desert’s streets safer for everyone.
Driving, biking, or walking, safety is a shared
responsibility. In Palm Desert, there’s always time to stop
for a VIP!
