HomeMy WebLinkAboutAluminum Patio Covers 2019Page 1 of 1 CITY OF PALM DESERT Building & Safety Department 73-510 Fred Waring, Palm Desert, CA (760) 776-6420 ALUMINUM PATIO COVERS Permit Over-the-Counter permit for Aluminum patio covers requires the following: • (3) Site plan showing location of patio cover and dimensions of setbacks to property lines and structures. Plans shall be based on the 2019 CBC (201 8 IBC) • (2) California Engineered specs with applicable details highlighted • Mobile Homes – Provide (2) sets of S.P.A. attachment specifications On enclosed patios, a minimum of 65% opening is required for light and ventilation on the longest wall and one other wall (show on elevations). Sleeping room egress openings shall not be enclosed into an enclosed patio. Patios shall be used only for outdoor recreational purposes and shall not be used as carports, garages, storage rooms, or habitable rooms. Patios shall not be conditioned (heating or cooling). Mixing components of different manufacturers is not permitted unless specified in the general notes or a letter from the engineer. (Example: in general you may not mix glass roof components with other types) Only permitted on the ground floor and not over 12 feet high without design calculations. A 3 feet long level landing with the width equal to the door is required when a patio door swings over the landing. The landing shall not be lower than 1” lower than the threshold of the doorway. Readily removable tempered glass panels may be used only when specified by a current ICC report. Field Inspection • Bottom track and top ledger inspection • Verification of slab thickness (3 ½ inch minimum) • Foundation inspection - (If post embedment detail is used then post must be set at time of footing inspection) • For Residential only: Verification of smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms in the existing dwelling is required prior to final inspection being performed. (This does not apply to mobile homes) • Electrical inspection- (If applicable) All receptacles are to be GFI protected • Doors from the dwelling into the patio and exiting the enclosed patio shall have a switched light • Readily removable panels (enclosed patios) • Safety glazing as required in hazardous locations (defined in CRC 308.4) • Ladder shall be provided at final inspection to verify fasteners • Other inspections may be required by special conditions 1/31/20
