(CITY STANDARD DESIGN/ALUMINUM PATIOS)
As of January 1, 2022, Building and Safety permits require digital submissions of construction plans

PLANNING CODE REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM SUBMITTAL AND PERMIT REQUIREMENTS:
The construction plans shall include the following, when applicable, or required by the plan review
team. Missing any items below may result in the submittal being rejected:
• COMPLETED BUILDING PERMIT APPLICATION (REQUIRED)
• COVER SHEET / SITE PLAN
- Must be drawn in black and white only
- Property owner’s name
- Property Address
- Demonstrate the location(s) of the new patio cover
- Show all existing and proposed structures
- Show property lines or boundary lines
- Show distances from other structures
- Show adjacent streets
- Identify type of patio cover and materials
- Label patio eves
- Label patio posts
- Show any proposed electrical outlet(s) for this project (i.e., outdoor lighting and fans)
o Electrical wiring must be outdoor weather rated
- Provide elevations if City Standard is not used
- Describe scope of work on site plan

- Patio dimensions
- For Patio Covers attached to a Mobile Home only – Standard plan approval stamp from HCD (If
applicable)

• CITY STANDARD RESIDENTIAL PATIO COVER ENGINEERING PLANS
The City Standard Residential Patio Covering Engineering is available at the STANDARD CITY
SPECIFICATIONS on the City’s website.
• ALUMINUM PATIO COVER ENGINEERING PLANS
- A California engineered approved manufacturer’s engineering is to be provided.
- Provide a Standard Plan Approval - Attachment specifications from your manufacturer when
attaching to the coach.
NOTE: The above requirements are intended for an expedited permit issuance without the need for plan review. However, if the
patio design has any of the following, further review is required:
- Patio roof heights exceed 10ft.
- Stucco is to be applied to the patio column posts.
- The patio is to be constructed on or within 5ft of a property line.
- If you use a design other than an approved City Standard Specification or a California Engineered approved manufacturer’s
engineering
