COMMUNITY GALLERY EXHIBITION FEATURES ART
Springtime signals the return of warmer temperatures, longer days, and increased activity by coyotes out
on the prowl for an easy meal.
A longtime desert resident whose presence here predates the development of Palm Desert’s homes and
businesses, coyotes play an important role in our natural ecosystem controlling rodents and other potential
disease carrying pests. They are often more active in the spring because they need extra food for their young.
Coyotes primarily hunt rodents and rabbits, but will take advantage of any available food source
including pet food, garbage, and domestic animals. You can help protect yourself, your pets, your property,
and the coyotes themselves by following some simple steps.
City Offers
Free Shredding
The City will host a free, two-day shredding
event at City Hall, 73510 Fred Waring Drive, on
Friday and Saturday, May 4 and 5.
Shredding will take place from 7:30 to
11:30 a.m. or until the trucks are full. There
is no need to remove staples or paper clips.
Binders will not be accepted. All documents
will be shredded onsite and then recycled.
For security purposes, the following types of
documents should be considered for shredding:
n Legal papers
n Credit card slips
n Bank statements
n Receipts/invoices
n Payroll records
n Medical records
n Tax records
n Accounting files/records,
financial statements
n Contracts
n Personnel files
n Canceled checks
n Photographs
This event is free and open to Palm Desert
residents and businesses. Businesses will be
limited to ten boxes of materials per day. For
more information, please call 760-346-0611,

Fleurs du Midi by Veronique Branger
Snow Creek by Myrn-Ellen Barrett Krengel
Smart Tips for Living in Coyote Country
n Never feed or attempt to tame coyotes
n Do not leave uneaten pet food outside
n Bring pets inside at night and do not leave them
outside unattended
n Put garbage in tightly closed containers that coyotes
cannot tip over
n Remove easy sources of water
n Pick up fallen fruit and cover compost piles
n Put away bird feeders at night to avoid attracting rodents
and other coyote prey
n If followed by a coyote, make loud noises or throw rocks
A natural part of our beautiful desert, coyotes are here to stay. You
can do your part to encourage coyotes to remain in the wild where they
belong by following the aforementioned tips. For more information, call
the California Department of Fish and Wildlife at 909-484-0167.
The Palm Desert Community Gallery will highlight artwork from
Veronique Branger and Myrn-Ellen Barrett Krengel in its new
exhibition, Inspired, on display June 8 through August 24.
A public reception to honor the artists will be held on Monday,
June 18, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
French born Veronique Branger presents a new body of work
in this exhibition. Branger studied art at the National School of
Fine Art in Lyon, France, and continued her artistic education
in San Francisco. She has painted murals throughout the
Coachella Valley.
The California desert and its beautiful flowers are the theme of
Myrn-Ellen Barrett Krengel’s oil paintings. She begins most of her
paintings outdoors where she paints in plein air and then finishes
them in her studio. Ms. Krengel studied art at the School of Fine
Art in Boston and Tufts University.
The Palm Desert Community Gallery is located in Palm Desert
City Hall and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
