PALM DESERT IS “ON
THE MOVE” IN STATE
OF THE CITY VIDEO
A PUBLICATION OF THE CITY OF PALM DESERT
Coachella Valley foodies,
rejoice! Palm Desert’s
Certified Farmers’ Market has
reopened for the 2021 – 2022 season. The
market has become a must-do for visitors
and mid-valley residents alike who eagerly
anticipate its return each fall.
This season, the Certified Famers’
Market has returned to its former Entrada
del Paseo location at the west end of
Highway 111 and El Paseo adjacent to the Palm Desert Area
Chamber of Commerce (72559 Highway 111). The market
will operate every Wednesday through April on the new
schedule of 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Now that outdoor dining restrictions have relaxed, all
of the market locations operated by the Certified Farmers’
Market of the Coachella Valley are opening a half hour
later and closing an hour later to accommodate a group
of brand-new culinary entrepreneurs who started their
businesses during the “pandemic pivot.” Two pop-up
restaurants on the schedule for Palm Desert in the upcoming
months are Straight and Marrow Street Food, serving
authentic Vietnamese quick dishes and Croux and Co.,
offering eclectic American food described
as “happiness on your plate.”
A perennial favorite, Palm Desert’s
Certified Farmers’ Market
gives residents and visitors an
opportunity to shop for farm
fresh produce and other artisanal products.
In addition to a wide assortment of fruits
and vegetables, the market may offer a
mouthwatering array of other products
such as farm raised meats, eggs, cheeses,
honey, organic coffee, prepared foods,
chocolates, soaps, and more.
When a market is designated as “certified,” it means
all the produce from participating farms at the market has
been grown at California farms which have been registered
and inspected by their county Agriculture Departments. The
market’s nearly two-dozen farms are regionally-based, most
within 100 miles of Palm Desert, thus reducing the carbon
footprint of bringing products to market.
The Certified Farmers’ Market offers a $15/$15 match
to customers participating in CalFresh EBT and a $10/$10
match for WIC, SSDI and federal unemployment. The
markets offer Market Buck tokens as an in-house currency or
ATM alternative to all customers with a charge or debit card,
which can be used for purchases at any vendor.
For more information, please visit
www.certifiedfarmersmarkets.org or
call 844-7FARMCV (844-732-7628).
Lower-income homeowners with homes that need
emergency repairs are encouraged to
apply for the City of Palm Desert’s
Home Improvement Program.
Types of repairs that could be
eligible for assistance under the
program include emergency water
damage repairs, water heater replacement, and
repairs to damaged roofs.

adjusted for family size. For a family of four, the
current area median annual income is $77,500.
To qualify, applicants
must have good credit, some
savings, and a consistent
employment history.
Successful applicants will be
selected to prequalify with a
lender when a home that is
suitable for their household’s
size and income becomes
available. Homes that are
part of these programs
are generally resales and
can range in price from

PALM DESERT OFFERS HOME OWNERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
This Veterans Day, the City of Palm Desert is honoring the
sacrifices of those who have served in the United States military. Local
residents are encouraged to join us in recognizing the dedication of
those who have served and those who continue to serve our nation.
On Tuesday, November 9 and Wednesday, November 10, a
Gratitude Wall will be on display in Civic Center Park from 9 a.m. to
7 p.m. Community members are welcome to bring their own pen/
marker to write a thank you message to our veterans or simply sign
their name on the wall.
The highlight of this year’s special celebration of veterans will be
the City’s annual Veterans Day Celebration, which will be offered
virtually on Thursday, November 11, at 11 a.m. The community is
invited to join and view the virtual event on both the City’s Facebook
page and our YouTube channel.
The program will feature a keynote speaker from the 7th Marine
Regiment at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in

veterans will be honored during this video presentation by displaying
their photos. To submit a photo for inclusion in the video, please

LOOK FORWARD TO A SHINING New Year
Dynamic Response to Pandemic Demonstrated in State of the City Video
“Palm Desert is a city on the move”
says Mayor Kathleen Kelly and that’s the
message conveyed in the video presentation
prepared for the Palm Desert Area Chamber
of Commerce’s State of the City event.
Despite the pandemic-related hardships
of the past 18 months, the City of Palm
Desert has, in many ways, emerged stronger
and better than ever. The City has invested
in public works and infrastructure projects
that will accelerate the community’s recovery
from the pandemic downturn.
The State of the City video provides
an update on these projects and offers
a visual tour of the many inventive and
dynamic developments around the City.
Mayor Kelly, Mayor Pro Tem Jan Harnik
and Council members Sabby Jonathan, Gina
Nestande and Karina Quintanilla are the hosts
introducing the latest on topics essential
to the City, including education, broad-
band connectivity, business development,
transportation, traffic, strategic growth,
public art, and quality of life.
